TITLE: DataClub and a 2.0 GB Virtual Volume
DOCUMENT ID#: FYI.W.0245
DATE: 15DEC92
PRODUCT: DataClub
PRODUCT VERSION: v2.0
SUPERSEDES: NA
SYMPTOM
When the DataClub virtual volume reaches a size of 2.0 GB of information or above, the file sizes in the DataClub volume become distorted and users may find difficulty copying in and out of the virtual volume.
ISSUE/PROBLEM
The Macintosh finder has a size limitation of 2 GB and was not designed to go above this amount.
SOLUTION
Limit the amount of shared storage space to below 2 GB. This is an Apple issue.

TITLE: DataClub and Error -35 At Startup
DOCUMENT ID#: FYI.W.0246
DATE: 15DEC92
PRODUCT: DataClub
PRODUCT VERSION: v2.0
SUPERSEDES: NA
SYMPTOM
After installing, DataClub gives an error -35 at startup and the disk becomes unavailable for DataClub use.
ISSUE/PROBLEM
The disk has been formatted with mirror-formatting software. This formatter is written with a disk directory structure that can not be used in the DataClub virtual server.

TITLE: NetWare v3.11 Server Sending ABEND Due to a Directory Manipulating Application
DOCUMENT ID#: FYI.W.0247
DATE: 21DEC92
PRODUCT: NetWare for Macintosh
PRODUCT VERSION: v3.x
SUPERSEDES: NA
SYMPTOM
The server stopped and sent the following abend error message:
┌─────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ClearPhantom With No Primary Directory Number│
└─────────────────────────────────────────────┘
ISSUE/PROBLEM
A custom-written application, that manipulated directories, was just installed on the server. The server stop and send an abend message whenever the application was creating and deleting a large amount of subdirectories.

TITLE: DataClub Icon Appears As an AppleShare Icon
DOCUMENT ID#: FYI.W.0248
DATE: 21DEC92
PRODUCT: DataClub
PRODUCT VERSION: All versions
SUPERSEDES: NA
SYMPTOM
When the DataClub volume was automatically-mounted at restart, its icon on the desktop was a generic AppleShare icon, as opposed to the box with arrows.
ISSUE/PROBLEM
The !DataClub extension file was located in the root of the System folder rather than the Extensions folder. Therefore, AppleShare was loading before DataClub. When AppleShare loaded, it searched for DataClub because it was supposed to automatically-mount the volume. Because Dataclub was not resident yet, the Macintosh logged in through the gateway (Example: As an AppleShare client of DataClub).
SOLUTION
Make sure that !DataClub is located in the Extensions folder within the System folder and reboot the Macintosh.

TITLE: Stacking Icons
DOCUMENT ID#: FYI.W.0249
DATE: 21DEC92
PRODUCT: Netware for Macintosh
PRODUCT VERSION: v3.x
SUPERSEDES: NA
SYMPTOM
All of the icons in an open window appear stacked on top of each other. When the user moves them to the correct positions and closes the window, the next time the window is opened, the icons are again stacked. When the Supervisor user selects Clean Up Window from the Finder menu, the icons remain stacked on top of each other.
ISSUE/PROBLEM
Netware for Macintosh sets the coordinates of the file icon as 0,0. Therefore, the Finder places all of the icons at this location, stacking them on top of each other.
SOLUTION
There are two workarounds:
1. Log in as Supervisor and physically move the icons.
2. View files by Name rather than by Icon.

TITLE: Quadra and EtherTalk Incompatibilities
DOCUMENT ID#: FYI.W.0251
DATE: 07JAN93
PRODUCT: NetWare for Macintosh
PRODUCT VERSION: All versions
SUPERSEDES: NA
SYMPTOM
Macintosh Quadra (all models) crashing, or responding erratically on an Ethernet network.
ISSUE/PROBLEM
Under heavy Ethernet traffic with virtual memory turned on, it is possible that your Macintosh may crash if you are using system software v7.0.1. This is due to the version of the AppleTalk driver that ships with the Quadra being somewhat incompatible with '040 chip set.
SOLUTION
Contact your Apple dealer for a copy of the Apple Network Software Installer v1.2.3. This will install AppleTalk v57.0.4 and EtherTalk v2.3.3. This will definitely make the Quadra work better on your network, though you will probably not notice any speed improvements.
